About Scottish Kin

Image of CarolScottish Kin was founded by Carol McKinven to provide an approachable Scottish genealogy research service and to advise those interested in their Scottish roots. She has been researching Scottish and English family history for over 20 years, and has branched out into Welsh and Irish records as well as internationally. Carol also has an interest in Estonian genealogy and history.

In addition to extensive experience, Carol holds a PhD from the University of St. Andrews for her research into bigamy in Victorian Scotland. She also holds a Masters in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde.

Based near Edinburgh, we have regular personal access to the Scotland’s People Centre and National Records of Scotland in Princes Street. Our location is also convenient for travel elsewhere in Scotland for research in other archives or for location research.

All Scottish Kin research is undertaken in line with the Association of Professional Genealogists professional and ethical guidelines

These [records] are fascinating, and it's good to know that that batch of family stories ties up!
