Census Records
Census records give details of everyone resident in the Rows on census night (which was usually in the first week in April) in family groups. This index has details of the census for 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911. If you’d like to view an image of the original census record, these are available to buy from the ScotlandsPeople website.

Valuation Roll Records
Valuation Roll records give the name of the tenant (normally the head of the household) of each Dalmeny Rows house for every year between 1885 and 1927. They don’t include details of anyone else living in the property. Most of the original schedules aren’t available online, but can be viewed at the National Records of Scotland in Edinburgh, or at the West Lothian Local History Library in Linlithgow. Selected years are available from the ScotlandsPeople website.

Voters Roll Records
The Voters Rolls give the name and address of those in Dalmeny Rows who were eligible to vote. Prior to 1918 this was only men over the age of 30 who met certain property requirements. The Representation of the People Act 1918 gave the vote to all men over the age of 21, and women over the age of 30 who met property or other requirements. In 1928 all women over the age of 21 got the vote, giving them equality with men in this respect. Included here are records for 1914 and for most years between 1921 and 1929. The original lists can be seen at the West Lothian Local History Library in Linlithgow.
